The Fraternity & Sorority Community at The College of New Jersey makes up more than 25% of the student body and is growing each year. Joining a fraternity or sorority is a fulfilling and rewarding experience that remains with its members for the rest of their lives. Here are some facts about the community at The College of New Jersey.

Unrecognized Organizations:

The College of New Jersey seeks to support and advance all of its recognized student organizations in order to provide developmental and experiential opportunities for students. These groups benefit from staff advisement, facility usage, funding opportunities, leadership training, educational programming, risk management support, insurance coverage, and engagement with over 230 other recognized student organizations. These recognized organizations that meet their standards of recognition can be found on College websites, including lionsgate.tcnj.edu, and offer various opportunities for new members to join throughout the year.

Groups that fail to meet recognition expectations or that have engaged in activities that violate organizational or College policies have lost recognition from the College. Despite having lost recognition from the College, some unrecognized groups may continue to operate in violation of College directives. These unrecognized groups no longer receive the advice, support or active oversight of the College. A student organization whose recognition has been revoked, but nevertheless continues to engage in activities in violation of College directives, is sometimes referred to as an “underground” organization or an organization that has “gone underground.”

Involvement with any unrecognized organization can pose a significant risk and students are strongly advised to avoid engagement with these groups. Individuals who affiliate with unrecognized organizations may be susceptible to participation in activities that violate College policy and should understand that they will be held individually accountable for their actions.

Sigma Pi Fraternity is not recognized by The College of New Jersey. Sigma Pi had their recognition revoked from the College for multiple violations of alcohol, drug, and new member policies.

Lambda Sigma Upsilon is not recognized by The College of New Jersey. LSU had their recognition revoked from the College for violations of new member policies and failure to comply.

Alpha Psi Chi is not recognized by The College of New Jersey. Psi Chi was suspended from the College for violations of Hazing and Alcohol policies.

More information about can be found at Fraternity & Sorority Chapter Conduct.
